About Gravesend United

Gravesend United was one of the two clubs that merged in 1946 to form Gravesend & Northfleet FC, the present-day Ebbsfleet United. Gravesend United – known as the Shrimpers – was itself the result of a merger between Gravesend FC and Gravesend Ormonde in 1893. With a rich Southern League history at the end of the 19th century, they competed on an equal stage with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Southampton. This is their story…

When the history of the development of football in Gravesend comes to be written in the dim and distant future, surely the author will no doubt sketch the establishment and growth of the club bearing the distinguished name of the borough itself...
